Run to Hear is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation founded by a group of teenagers–all of whom are profoundly deaf and hear with the help of cochlear implants. The organization holds an annual 5K fun run with the goal of raising money not just for cochlear implant assistance, but also to help deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals access whatever services and equipment they need, regardless of their ability to pay.
The third annual Run to Hear 5K was held Saturday, July 13th, 2013 at Lake Pflugerville Park in Pflugerville, Texas. We had about 300 participants and volunteers at the event—the most we’ve ever had! An early 7:00 am start was our attempt to beat the Texas summer heat, and even though we didn’t quite accomplish that goal, everyone still finished the race in good shape. Our corporate sponsors really stepped up to help us out with the event—they are listed below and we are so appreciative of their support. Volunteers included members of Round Rock chapters of Serteens, a Sertoma-sponsored youth organization dedicated to community service. Representatives from two of our beneficiaries, Any Baby Can’s Children’s Hearing Aid Texas (CHAT) Program and The Dallas Hearing Foundation, were on hand to help out as well. Run to Hear medals were given to race winners in Senior, Adult, and Youth categories for both males and females. We hope everyone had a great time and we hope you’ll join us again for the 2014 Run to Hear 5K, which will be held Saturday May 10th (the Saturday before Mother’s Day).
In 2012, we became a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation and our logo became a registered service mark. The 2012 Run to Hear 5K was held at Lake Pflugerville Park in Pflugerville, Texas on June 23rd and we had four funding recipients: Any Baby Can/Children’s Hearing Aid Texas (CHAT) Program; The Dallas Hearing Foundation; the Colorado Neurological Institute’s Cochlear Implant Assistance Program; and the Starkey Hearing Foundation’s Hearing Angel Program. The 2012 5K was a tremendous success, with more participants, more volunteers, and more corporate sponsorship and fundraising.
